Elect Tom Shaw

      I have chosen to run for the Iowa House as I feel that the values that Iowans hold dear are under attack.  Our rich heritage and pioneer spirit have always made Iowa a great place to live and to raise our families.  We take great pride in our communities, schools and churches.

      Unfortunately, our traditional way of life has been under attack by those who choose to ignore the will of “We the People.”  “Big Labor” and other outside special interest groups continue to unduly influence our State Legislature.  Article 1, Section 2, of the Iowa Constitution provides that “All political power is inherent in the people ….” and I believe it is time for the people to stand up and reassert their power.

 As your State Representative, I pledge to:

 o Defend the right to life of all innocent persons, from fertilization to natural death. 

o Defend against any infringement on the right to keep and bear arms.

o Defend against federal encroachment on Iowa’s sovereignty and state’s rights.

o Defend Iowa’s “English Only” law; and promote laws which prohibit illegal aliens from employment and state benefits.

o Defend Iowa’s “Right to Work” law.

o Defend Iowans from excessive, unjustified and punitive taxation.

o Defend traditional marriage and call for a constitutional amendment which defines marriage as a union between one man and one woman.

o Defend the authority of local school boards and the right of parents to home school their children.

     I have faithfully and honorably served my country for twenty years in the U.S. Navy, my community as Chief of Police, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve you in the Iowa House of Representatives.
